KNUST Ignites Culinary Revolution with Grand Food Festival to Champion Food Security and Innovation

The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology has once again demonstrated academic excellence beyond the lecture halls by hosting a spectacular Food Festival aimed at promoting indigenous cuisine, cultural identity and sustainable food innovation.
The vibrant event, held in Kumasi, assembled students, researchers and innovators from various universities and academic departments across the country to exhibit diverse local and continental dishes, alongside cutting-edge food products engineered for sustainable development.

In an interview with the media, Professor Emmanuel Ohene Afoakwa, President of the Ghana Association of Scientists and Technologists, underscored the strategic importance of the initiative.
He stressed that traditional foods must not be reduced to mere cultural artefacts, describing them as powerful instruments for national development.

“Our indigenous foods are nutritious, climate-smart and sustainable. They preserve biodiversity, empower rural livelihoods and provide pragmatic solutions to food insecurity and malnutrition,” he stated emphatically.
Professor Afoakwa further noted that the festival serves as an entrepreneurial incubation platform for students, equipping them with practical skills to establish their own ventures after graduation.

According to him, the initiative aligns with global efforts to advance sustainable food systems while reinforcing Africa’s rich culinary heritage.

The annual festival has therefore positioned KNUST as a formidable centre for research-driven innovation, youth empowerment and transformative solutions to pressing food security challenges.
