I’m not surprised by Agradaa’s new sentence verdict- Lawyer Topra Abradu Nyansakuku

A legal practitioner, Lawyer Topra Abradu Nyansakuku, has stated emphatically that he was not surprised when the court gave out a new sentence verdict of 12 months to Evangelist Patricia Asiedu Koranteng, popularly known as Agradaa.

According to him, there are many procedures in dealing with court cases as a reduction of sentences can happen in the law.

He continued that there is the principle of clemency in law, which a lawyer of an accused person can apply for a reduction of sentences.

Stressing that, clemency can be applied when an appeal is made to the court on behalf of the accused who is a first-time offender.

Another is when the accused person has a health challenge, the principle of clemency can be applied.

Lawyer Topra Abradu Nyansakuku further added that when the offence of the accused person is seen as a misdemeanour, clemency can be applied as such offences do not call for higher sentences.

He emphasised that a maximum for a person seen as such should be 3 years imprisonment, while a minimum should be less than three years.

“The law is a living organism capable of growing as humans also grow,” he established.
