Prepare to face the consequences- FDA cautions food vendors without hygiene permits

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) in the Ashanti Region has cautioned  food vendors who operate without acquiring food hygiene permits from the authority.

In an interview with the Ashanti Regional Director, Mr Nathaniel Nkrumah, he urged Ghanaians to be cautious when buying food from vendors, emphasising that many do not have the required food hygiene permits.

Mr Nkrumah advised consumers to avoid patronising food from vendors who display their products alongside gutters and unclean environment as all these contribute to the spread of cholera and other infectious diseases.

He stressed on the importance of buying from vendors who maintain cleanliness and follow proper food handling protocols. Stating that vendors who fail to comply with food safety regulations would be dealt with by the authority.

“We want to advise the public to observe all the hygienic measures when buying food from vendors to ensure that the food is handled and prepared in a clean environment,” Mr Nkrumah noted.

The FDA is warning vendors without permits that they will face consequences. “We will come after them,” Mr Nkrumah said, emphasising the need for vendors to prioritise food safety.
