Rainstorm Wreaks Havoc at Apaaso Kindergarten School

A severe rainstorm has caused destruction at the Apaaso Kindergarten(KG) school in the Bekwai Municipality of the Ashanti Region leaving teachers and pupils in disarray.

The storm ripped off a significant portion of the school’s roof, exposing the interior to the school block.

Learning materials and other cooking materials were damaged or destroyed by the storm as their kitchen, together with other significant rooms such as the bathroom, were also affected.

Pupils at the Apaaso Kindergarten school are in dire difficultyegetting it difficult to get food to eat after the incident because their source of food has been damaged, despite paying GHS4 as a feeding fee every day.

The children are exempted from the school feeding policy for basic schools despite the remote nature of the community.

The school block, which is over 60 years old with cracks, is yet to be renovated.

During an interview with a teacher who resides in the school, Mr Adonu Randolph revealed that that the classrooms are not the only challenges facing the school as the wooding toilet of the school is also in bad shape, which almost cost him his life after falling into it.

He emphasized that the nature of the toilet is a life-threatening one which needs to be taken care of to avoid future disaster.

He, therefore, called on authorities in government, NGOs and other individuals to support the school with its numerous challenges.
