Minister of Environment Urges Scrap Dealers to Support Government Efforts For Environmental Protection

 

The Minister of Environment, Science and Technology, Hon. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammad, has called on scrap dealers to support the government in protecting the environment.

During a visit to the Agbogbloshi scrapyard, the Minister emphasized the need for collaboration between the government and scrap dealers to address environmental challenges.

 

Hon. Muhammad expressed concerns about the impact of scrap dealers’ activities on waste disposal, particularly electronic waste disposal, which is causing harm to residents of the Agbogbloshi area.

He highlighted the existence of a collection system within the scrapyard that collects electronic waste and uses a controlled burning system to extract copper without polluting the environment.

 

He also announced plans by the John Dramani Mahama administration to invest in desalting the lagoon at Agbogbloshi and developing it into a tourist site.

He stressed the ministry’s mandate to ensure a serene and acceptable environment for Ghanaians, emphasizing the importance of stakeholder engagement in achieving this goal.

The Minister of Environment, Science and Technology emphasises the need for all to cooperate with the government’s vision to ensuring a safer environment for the good people of Ghana and relief citizens of diseases caused by environmental pollution.
