KMA And Bloomberg Philanthropies Launch Second Round of Youth Climate Action Fund to Empower Young Ghanaians
The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), in collaboration with Bloomberg Philanthropies, has launched the second round of the Youth Climate Action Fund, a groundbreaking initiative designed to empower young people to take the lead in developing and implementing innovative solutions to climate change.
Targeting individuals aged 15 to 24, the fund invites proposals from young, passionate, and creative minds who are eager to make a difference in their communities and beyond.
The goal is to encourage youth-led action that contributes meaningfully to climate adaptation and mitigation efforts across the Kumasi Metropolis and the nation at large.
During a media interaction at the launch, the Metropolitan Chief Executive, Hon. Richard Ofori-Agyeman Boadi urged young people to view climate change not only as a global challenge but also as an opportunity to create lasting impact and economic growth.
He emphasised the potential of the fund to inspire climate-focused entrepreneurship, stating that it should be used to create more jobs and drive local development.
“Let’s use the opportunities presented by climate action to create more jobs and help develop our country, Ghana,” he said. “This fund is not just about addressing climate issues; it is also about empowering our youth to innovate and lead.”
Some beneficiaries of the previous round of the Youth Climate Action Fund also expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the KMA and Bloomberg Philanthropies for the support. They shared how the funding and mentorship had enabled them to bring their climate-related ideas to life, ranging from community clean-up campaigns to sustainable farming projects, and highlighted how the initiative has boosted their confidence, skills, and commitment to environmental advocacy.
The second round of the fund builds upon the success and momentum of the first, which saw several impactful youth-led projects come to life within the metropolis.
With continued support from Bloomberg Philanthropies, the KMA remains committed to driving sustainable development through inclusive and community-driven approaches, especially by placing young people at the centre of climate action.
The Youth Climate Action Fund is a timely response to the global climate crisis and reflects Kumasi’s ongoing dedication to building a greener, more resilient future one that begins with the energy, passion, and vision of its youth.
