Illegal Mining Crackdown: Two Excavators Seized, One Arrested in Abuakwaa Forest

A joint anti-galamsey operation carried out Thursday afternoon, January 22, by Logeist Group Company Limited (Logeist Ecoreclaim Initiative) in collaboration with the Bekwai Police Command has resulted in the seizure of two excavators and the arrest of one illegal miner in the Abuakwaa Forest, near the Kobro water body in the Amansie Central District of the Ashanti Region.

The operation forms part of sustained efforts to combat illegal mining and reclaim lands and water bodies destroyed by galamsey activities.

Speaking to the media after the operation, the General Manager of Logeist Ecoreclaim Initiative, Mr. Seth Kofi Agyei, described the exercise as successful and assured the public that similar operations would continue.

According to him, the rate at which illegal miners are destroying farmlands and polluting water bodies is alarming and requires urgent collective action.

Mr. Agyei disclosed that Logeist Ecoreclaim Initiative has so far reclaimed about 200 hectares of galamsey-degraded land, emphasizing that the company operates with integrity and does not accept or offer bribes.

He further revealed that the two seized excavators are currently in police custody, while the suspect arrested will be processed and arraigned before court on Monday.

Mr. Agyei also called on the general public to actively support the fight against illegal mining, stressing that the battle against galamsey is a shared responsibility.

He urged residents to report any illegal mining activities to the police or assist in apprehending perpetrators and handing them over to law enforcement agencies.
