Afigya Kwabre South Steps Up Sanitation Drive as MCE Pledges Swift Action on Stalled Road Projects

The Afigya Kwabre South Municipal Assembly has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to environmental sustainability and infrastructural development following a comprehensive clean-up exercise at Atimatim New Site within the Afigya Kwabre South Municipality.

The exercise, which attracted residents, assembly members and local opinion leaders, formed part of the government’s intensified national sanitation campaign aimed at fostering hygienic communities and curbing sanitation-related diseases.

Participants embarked on desilting choked gutters, clearing heaps of refuse and restoring environmental order in the rapidly developing enclave.

Addressing the gathering, the Municipal Chief Executive, Patricia Pearl Ankrah, underscored the indispensable role of collective responsibility in sustaining a clean and healthy municipality. She admonished residents to internalize the culture of environmental stewardship, stressing that sanitation must not be episodic but habitual.

Beyond sanitation, the MCE confronted mounting concerns regarding abandoned road projects within Atimatim New Site.

Residents have long lamented the deteriorating condition of the roads, which become excessively dusty in the dry season and virtually impassable during heavy rains, thereby disrupting mobility and commercial activities.

In response, Madam Ankrah assured the community that decisive engagements are underway to facilitate the prompt return of the contractor to site. She emphasized that the Assembly recognizes the strategic importance of functional road infrastructure in stimulating economic growth, enhancing public safety and improving overall quality of life.

She further reiterated that the municipality has remained consistent in its participation in the government’s clean-up initiative introduced under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama, describing sanitation and infrastructure development as twin pillars of sustainable local governance.

Residents, while expressing appreciation for the Assembly’s intervention, urged swift implementation of the road rehabilitation assurance to alleviate the persistent challenges confronting the community.

The dual focus on sanitation and infrastructure signals what authorities describe as a renewed momentum toward holistic development within the municipality.
