Star Ghana Partners Manhyia Divisional MTTD Command to Educate Akwatia Line Scrap Dealers on Road Safety

Star Ghana Foundation has collaborated with the Manhyia Divisional MTTD Command to educate the Akwatia Line Scrap Dealers Association on road safety for better improvement in their daily activities

This initiative by Star Ghana Foundation falls under their “Shift the Power Program,” which provides operational support as part of it that aims to empower these scrap dealers to mobilise money locally to support themselves by educating them to comply with the laws on road safety.

As part of that, the Star Ghana Foundation, with their project coordinator, Mr Edward Takyi, brought in Lawyer Patrick Adu Amponsah to assist with the education by the Manhyia Divisional MTTD Command to equip these scrap dealers with more insight and knowledge about road safety and their work.

The Manhyia Divisional MTTD Commander, Superintendent Mary Affanyi, addressing the association, explained the need for them to abide by the rules and regulations on the road to avoid being dealt with by the law. Stressing that, with education, it will enlighten them to refrain from certain acts that always land them in trouble.

Superintendent Mary Affanyi further added that this knowledge was gained through road safety education by the scrap dealers, which would change the misconception most people have about them. She assured that this education on road safety will be a continuous thing to shape them and make them law-abiding citizens.

The Secretary for the Akwatia Line Scrap Dealers Association, Mr Mohammed Awal Tahiru, expressed their satisfaction with Star Ghana Foundation and the Manhyia Divisional MTTD Command for the education given to them on the road as it has broadened their knowledge about certain things they were lacking while in the field of work which was always landing them in court.

He therefore called on the government to support these scrap dealers to get a permanent place to settle for their business as this scrap job is creating a lot of jobs for most youth without being a burden on the government for employment.
