*Ghanaians Cautioned to be Extremely Vigilant About Potential Bushfires – Joyce Kwafo*
The head of communications at the Forestry Commission, Madam Joyce Kwafo, has cautioned Ghanaians to be extremely vigilant about potential bushfires.
Speaking in an interview with the media in Accra today, Joyce Kwafo said on the backdrop of bushfires and the hamattan season in various rural areas, she expressed worry that Ghanaian farmers always failed to adapt to change.
She lamented with warnings focused on the dangers of human-caused fires during the dry season, particularly from activities like farming practices, hunting, and careless disposal of cigarettes, as these fires can cause significant damage to the environment, agriculture, and wildlife.
She added that the commission has actively promoted public awareness campaigns to educate people about the dangers of bushfires and how to prevent them.
She, however, emphasized that anyone found guilty of intentionally starting a bushfire would be dealt with swiftly by authorities and laws governing bushfire ablaze would face heavy sanctions and punishments.
