Western Regional Minister Calls For Stronger Collaboration With Labour Unions
Western Regional Minister Joseph Nelson is calling on labour unions to join forces with the government and other stakeholders to enhance Ghana’s working environment.
He emphasizes the importance of collective collaboration between labour unions and the government to achieve harmonious industrial development.
Western Regional Minister Joseph Nelson has praised the Trade Union Congress (TUC) for its vital role in protecting workers’ rights and ensuring peace and stability in Ghana.
He made these remarks while meeting with Richard Hanson, the Acting General Secretary of TUC, who paid him a courtesy call to discuss the union’s activities.
Minister Nelson acknowledged the TUC’s efforts in promoting workers’ welfare and contributing to the country’s development.
Addressing ongoing industrial disputes in the region, the Minister stressed that both public and private sector employers must respect workers’ rights.
For support required to enhance the union’s operations, Joseph Nelson assured the TUC boss of his commitment to collaborate effectively to ensure their smooth functioning.
The Acting General Secretary of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) in the Western Region, Richard Hanson, expressed gratitude to the Minister for hosting him.
He highlighted a few industrial issues in the region, including a case involving Twyford Ghana, where an employee was allegedly abused. He appealed to the Minister to intervene and ensure justice for all parties involved.
Mr Hanson also noted that the TUC was once part of the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) but was later removed. The union is now advocating for reinstatement to actively contribute to regional security discussions.
