Vacate Forest Reserves, Water Bodies or Face Legal Consequences- Illegal Miners Told
The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, , has issued a stern warning to illegal miners operating in forest reserves and water bodies within the Ashanti region to vacate those areas and halt their operations in the next two weeks.
According to Dr Frank Amoakohene, this move forms part of the government’s efforts to curb the devastating effects of illegal mining activities, popularly known as galamsey, which has ravaged many parts of the country.
The activity has led to widespread deforestation, pollution of water bodies, and destruction of farmlands. Emphasising why the government has given a two-week ultimatum to these illegal miners to vacate the areas or face the full force of the law.
The Ashanti Regional Minister continues that the government’s ultimatum is a clear indication of its commitment to protecting the environment and ensuring sustainable development.
Stressing that it’s essential for illegal miners to heed the warning and vacate the areas to avoid any legal consequences.
Dr Frank Amoakohene made this known when he engaged with the media to discuss the roadmap for the developmental growth of the region.
“I also called on the media to give out their best in supporting this initiative of the government’s efforts to curb illegal mining in the country by giving any information needed to assist with their work,” he added.
