GTEC Orders Royal Nursing College to Refund Fees, Affiliation Suspended

The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission has directed the management of Royal Nursing College at Tafo Nhyiaeso in Kumasi to refund all fees paid by Level 100 and 200 students, following the institution’s closure over regulatory breaches.

In a public notice issued on Thursday, March 19, 2026, GTEC explained that the decision follows the shutdown of the college on February 19, 2026, due to various irregularities and anomalies identified during regulatory inspections.

According to the Commission, a meeting was held with the University of Cape Coast, the affiliate institution of the college on March 11, 2026, to address issues concerning affiliation and mentorship.

GTEC revealed that UCC has since suspended its affiliation with the college after the Nursing and Midwifery Council withdrew the institution’s licence, and GTEC itself revoked its accreditation.

The statement further disclosed that UCC has no record of students in Levels 100 and 200, indicating that they were neither properly admitted nor matriculated.

As a result, these students are not recognized by the Commission, as they were admitted at a time when the college’s accreditation had already been revoked and it had been directed to cease fresh admissions.

Consequently, GTEC has ordered the college to refund all fees paid by affected students.

For Level 300 students, UCC will conduct an audit and absorb only those who meet the prescribed entry requirements.

GTEC also emphasized that its earlier directive for the closure of the college remains in force, citing the withdrawal of its accreditation, the revocation of its licence by the Nursing and Midwifery Council, and the suspension of its affiliation by UCC.

Additionally, management members of the college who were arrested for breaching regulatory directives during the inspection have been processed for prosecution.

The Commission advised the general public to always verify the accreditation status of tertiary institutions and their programmes before seeking admission.

GTEC reiterated its commitment to ensuring quality, integrity, and order within Ghana’s tertiary education sector.
