Boamang Maase JHS Wins 2026 District Quiz Competition Despite Educational Challenges

Boamang Maase D/A Junior High School has emerged victorious in the 2026 edition of the Afigya Kwabre North District inter-schools quiz competition, a flagship academic initiative designed to promote intellectual excellence and stimulate competitive learning among public basic schools.
The competition, which was held at Boamang and organised by the Afigya Kwabre North District Education Directorate, brought together six selected public Junior High Schools from across the district in a rigorous display of knowledge, critical thinking, and academic dexterity.
The event, which forms part of a broader strategic effort to enhance educational outcomes within the district, witnessed keenly contested rounds as participating schools battled across various subject areas.
At the end of the intellectually charged contest, Boamang Maase D/A JHS distinguished itself with an outstanding performance, securing the top position among its peers.

While the competition served as a testament to the immense academic potential and resilience of students within the district, it also brought into sharp focus the persistent structural and logistical challenges confronting public basic education.
Speaking to the media after the event, the District Director of Education, Madam Ellen Gyakyewaa Eshun, commended the participating schools for their dedication and impressive performance.
She noted that the continuity of the quiz programme over the past seven years has significantly contributed to sharpening students’ analytical abilities, boosting confidence, and fostering a culture of academic excellence.
However, she expressed profound concern over the dire state of infrastructure and the acute shortage of essential teaching and learning materials in many public schools across the district.

According to Madam Eshun, the lack of adequate textbooks, limited classroom space, and insufficient educational resources continues to impede effective teaching and learning, thereby undermining the gains being made through such academic interventions
“These competitions are helping our students to improve academically, but the reality on the ground is that many of our schools are struggling with necessities. Without textbooks and proper infrastructure, it becomes difficult to sustain this progress,” she indicated.
She therefore issued a passionate appeal to government, development partners, stakeholders in the education sector, and the District Assembly to urgently intervene and provide the requisite support to bridge the resource gap and improve learning conditions.
Responding to the concerns raised, the District Chief Executive for Afigya Kwabre North, Emmanuel Justin Agumah, acknowledged the challenges confronting the education sector within the district and assured the Assembly of the Assembly’s commitment to addressing them.
He disclosed that since assuming office, issues relating to inadequate infrastructure, limited logistics, and resource constraints in schools have consistently been brought to his attention.

Mr Agumah emphasised that improving educational infrastructure and expanding access to teaching and learning materials remain key priorities for the assembly, adding that strategic measures are being considered to enhance conditions in public schools.
“We are fully aware of these challenges, and as an Assembly, we are committed to working closely with all stakeholders to improve the situation. Education remains a critical pillar of development, and we will continue to invest in it,” he stated.
The inter-schools quiz competition is widely regarded as a vital platform for nurturing academic talent, encouraging healthy competition, and identifying bright students within the district.
Despite the success of the initiative, education authorities maintain that without urgent and sustained intervention to address the underlying challenges, the full potential of students in the district may not be realised.
The event, therefore, not only celebrated academic excellence but also served as a compelling reminder of the urgent need to strengthen the foundation of public basic education in Afigya Kwabre North.
