PREHENS Demands Government, Corperate Backing to Strengthen Rural Healthcare

The Preventive Health Nurses Society of Ghana (PREHENS-GH) has held its maiden Biennial General Conference at Ejisu in the Ashanti Region, where key stakeholders renewed calls for increased investment in preventive healthcare across the country.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the conference, the National Chairperson of PREHENS-GH, Miss Dora-Jones Yaidoo, highlighted the critical role preventive health nurses play in combating non-communicable diseases (NCDs), particularly in rural communities.
She explained that PREHENS nurses are working tirelessly to help reduce the growing cases of hypertension, diabetes and other chronic conditions.
However, she noted that the society faces numerous challenges, including inadequate logistics and limited resources, which affect effective service delivery.
Miss Yaidoo therefore appealed to government and corporate bodies to support the society with the needed resources to enhance their work and improve healthcare delivery, especially in underserved areas.

Also speaking to the media, the Ashanti Regional Director of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Fred Adomako Boateng, emphasised that giving adequate attention to preventive health workers would significantly contribute to Ghana’s growth and development.
According to him, strengthening preventive healthcare systems will help reduce the national disease burden, improve productivity and lessen the strain on curative health services.

Meanwhile, the Chief of Nkwantakese, Nana Boakye-Yam Ababio, announced that he has allocated 10 acres of land to PREHENS-GH to support the establishment of a research institute.
He called on government to facilitate the project, noting that the proposed institute would enhance research and innovation in preventive healthcare and further strengthen Ghana’s response to non-communicable diseases.
The maiden biennial conference brought together preventive health nurses and stakeholders to deliberate on strategies aimed at improving community health systems and promoting preventive healthcare nationwide.
